This first Pizza e Birra brought a touch of Melbourne to a new Crown Street apartment development in Sydney’s Surry Hills.
Templeton in collaboration with Chris Connell Design devised a palette of warm dark hues and textures to create an intimate, cool vibe for the space.
An industrial feel was introduced through the use of polished concrete floors and steel framed windows. The timber bar, positioned centrally to draw people in from the street, was artfully striped with black and white tiles. Lighting was kept to a sexy minimum with raw pendant bulbs slung above tables and the bronze glass bottle rack above the bar providing a warm, diffused glow. Felt-like panels were applied to the walls to deaden acoustics to an atmospheric hum.
Pizza e Birra marked a new design direction for Sydney’s food scene and has ironically since opened in Melbourne.
